Xcel Prairie Island Hearings

Greg Taylor

The state of Minnesota has begun a review to determine if Xcel Energy should get additional space to store nuclear material at its Prairie Island Generating Plant.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission says it has completed Xcel's application for additional dry cask storage at the plant, kicking off the environmental review process.

The Minnesota Commerce Department will hold two hearings next week to determine the scope of that review.

A virtual hearing will be held Wednesday, April 24th, while an in-person hearing will be held Thursday, April 25th in Red Wing at Red Wing Ignite at 6 pm in the Community Room.

Virtual Meeting Wednesday, April 24, 2024 – 6 p.m.
