Wanamingo Elementary School Closing

Greg Taylor

Citing declining enrollment and rising costs of keeping the building open, the Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board  Monday night voted 7-0 to close Wanamingo Elementary School.

The Kenyon Leader reports after a year of getting public comment at a variety of venues, the School Board was left with two options, full closure of the elementary school or  the possible development of the site into a community center or early child care center.

The final date the elementary school will be open is June 30th, with everything relocated to Kenyon-Wanamingo Middle School and High School after that.

The School Board assured people who attended Monday night’s meeting that the building will be able to house grades kindergarten to 12th grade.
