In August 2021, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office joined the historic $26 billion multi-state settlement agreements with pharmaceutical distributors McKesson, Cardinal Health, and AmerisourceBergen, and opioid manufacturer Johnson & Johnson.Â
In December 2022, the Attorney General’s Office joined five additional multi-state settlements worth $20.4 billion with major opioid manufacturers Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan, and three of the nation’s largest retail pharmacy chains: Walmart, CVS, and Walgreen’s.Â
Wabasha County’s expected portion of the settlement is approximately $1,180,000 over an 18-year period.Â
A Request for Proposals (RFP) will identify qualified organizations to respond to the opioid crisis through opioid epidemic response strategies, including prevention, treatment and recovery, criminal justice interventions, and harm reduction.
Multiple applicants may be selected for funding contracts. Through this process, up to $180,000 could be awarded, with individual projects receiving funding.Â
Each applicant must address one category. The categories are prevention, treatment and recovery, criminal justice interventions, and harm reduction.
Applicants may apply for multiple subcategories and abatement strategies within a category.Â
