Wabasha County Local State of Emergency

Greg Taylor

Wabasha County Commissioners on July 9 approved a resolution declaring a local state of emergency for damages from recent heavy rain and flooding.

County cities and townships sustained damage to public infrastructure, roads and bridges, stemming from flooding on the Zumbro River and the Mississippi River due to heavy rains that began on or about June 16.

The Plainview News reports County Emergency Management director Brenda Tomlinson says it’s difficult to estimate damages at this time since water on the Mississippi River is still high and it’s possible there will be increased damage to roads and properties.

States and counties must meet a certain damage threshold in order to qualify for state or federal disaster assistance. Wabasha County’s state damage threshold is $49,190 and its Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) damage threshold is $98,380.

There is a 25 percent local match.
