Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Matt Hayen was honored last week at the Board of Commissioners meeting for his outstanding work as training sergeant.
Sheriff Marty Kelly praised Hayen after quoting a message from the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), which noted Goodhue County was the only agency out of 396 statewide where every officer up for license renewal had completed all required courses.
The Sheriff’s Office has 47 licensed officers who must complete 16 courses every three years, plus annual training, to maintain certification.
Hayen, with the department for three years and focused on training for the last two, said the role suits him. “I’m very detail oriented and I like to stay busy,” he said.
Hayen and several colleagues also serve as POST instructors. “Our goal is to set the standard and be an example for other agencies.”
