A Red Wing School Board member is facing charges of a gross misdemeanor for allegedly shoplifting from the local Target store, with accusations of repeatedly taking items without paying over several months.
According to a Goodhue County District Court complaint 49-year-old Rachel Schoenfelder is accused of stealing more than $500 worth of goods between March and July.
It is reported that she didn't pay for items in her cart at the self-checkout line and often put them directly into a reusable bag.
According to a court complaint, Schoenfelder admitted to Target staff that she had purposely not paid for the items in the bag. She allegedly told the police she knew it was wrong but did it because things were becoming more expensive.
Schoenfelder’s first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 31.
