Red Wing Schools Severe Weather

Red Wing Public Schools will take advantage of Severe Weather Awareness Week, this week, to review classroom procedures.

Minnesota has scheduled​ statewide tornado drills for 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.​​​ Thursday, April 16.

Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning.

The first drill is intended for places of work. The evening drill is intended for second shift workers and families.

Red Wing Public Schools will hold drills this month as schedules allow, avoiding concerts, field trips, etc.

Minnesota experiences an average of 46​ tornadoes per year, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Most tornadoes occur between May and August, though they have been spotted as early as March 6 in 2017 and as late as Dec. 15 in 2021, when the state recorded 22 confirmed tornadoes.
