Red Wing Police Department Email Scam




The Red Wing Police Department has received reports about an email scam in the area.


The scammers identify themselves as representatives of the City of Red Wing and request payment for a service, such as a permit or license. They send a fake invoice and ask the victims to pay the City through a wire transfer. 


The Police Department urges those who receive emails from the City of Red Wing to check the source’s email address. A valid email address from the City of Red Wing ends in “@ci.red-wing.mn.us.” OR “@redwingmn.gov.”  


If you have suspicions about an email you receive from the City of Red Wing, please call the Red Wing Police Department’s non-emergency line at 651.385.3155. 


If you receive an email that requests urgent payment from the City of Red Wing, remember this information: 


1.    Do not feel pressured to act.

2.    The City of Red Wing will never demand payments through wire transfers.

3.    Call the Red Wing Police Department at 651.385.3155 to report the incident.

4.    Share what you know with others. By telling people you know about the scam, you help protect your community.
