Red Wing Hwy 61 Median Closings

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is taking steps to address one of the most dangerous highway stretches in Red Wing by closing and removing two median crossings on Highway 61 between Bench Street and Tyler Road.

You will still be able to take right turns on and off the service roads (near McDonald's/Merchant's Bank and at Red Wing Avenue).

But if you want to cross to the opposite side of the highway, you'll need to drive to one of the traffic-light-controlled intersections nearby at either Tyler Road or Bench Street.

Highway 61 between Bench Street and Spring Creek Road ranked as the highest-priority corridor for safety improvements in the City's recent Road Safety Action Plan.

In the past five years, the Fire Department has responded to 15 motor vehicle crashes with minor to severe injuries.

The safety changes are planned to happen in early this month.
