Red Wing City Council Preliminary Levy Pushback

The Red Wing City Council received plenty of public pushback at last weeks meeeting.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, eight individuals got up and spoke against the 16.5% preliminary property tax levy the council approved last month.

Kathi Zinn’s comments echoed the other sentiments of the speakers, stop spending money and passing the bill along to citizens of Red Wing.

The 16.5% was recommended as it provides the necessary funding for the proposed budget.

Council President, Kim Beise, invites the public to their next budget workshop later this month October 25th, and weigh in on budget items and where cuts can be made.

The Council also voted to hold their annual Truth in Taxation Meeting on December 5 when they can lower the levy but NOT raise it beyond the preliminary amount.
