Plainview’s City Council on Oct. 14 approved a motion recommending that the City move forward with water tower projects to include accepting bids and awarding contracts.
Project No. 1: Rehabilitation of the existing 500,000-gallon elevated storage tank for $663,650, from Tankez Coatings, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas.
Project No. 2: Construction of a new 100,000-gallon elevated storage tank (for gas dissipation of Well No. 3) in the amount of $2,890,000, from Maguire Iron, Inc., of Sioux Falls, SD.
Project No. 2 provides the city with critical infrastructure and the most cost-effective means to resolve a gas entrainment issue at Well No. 3.
Only Well No. 2 is currently in operation to serve the community, while Well No. 3 remains offline and is only used in emergency situations.
This lack of redundancy makes it difficult to operate the system and reduces the level of service and reliability of ensuring good quality water supply for the community.
The City can expect to use cash reserves from its Water Fund due to the bid for Project No. 2 coming in significantly higher than anticipated, but the funds will eventually stabilize if the City stays up to date on regular, moderate annual adjustment to rates.
