The Peace Corps Legacy Association (PCLA), a 501(c)(3) Minnesota nonprofit, is inviting the community to attend a public presentation at 7 pm tonight at the Plainview City Hall to present and review proposed upgrades to the Trailhead Park in Plainview.
For the past few years PCLA has been working with the City of Plainview, with input from local entities the American Legion and Boy Scouts on enhancements to the park.
In 2014 the City of Plainview, along with the Minnesota State Historical Society and the State Legacy Fund, installed four historical markers in the park on the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps, recognizing unique Plainview-area, state, and national historical events.
In 2023, PCLA hosted a national event with national military, AmeriCorps and Peace Corps speakers in Plainview, to have the park designated a first-of-its- kind National Service Park in America. The goal is to honor all forms of national service: military, AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps.
Since 2018 PCLA has been engaged in fund-raising to ascertain if future development was feasible and to date PCLA has received donations from more than 1,000 former Peace Corps Volunteers, from all 50 states in America.
Based on this success, PCLA commissioned and funded WSB, a major architectural firm with regional offices in Rochester, to perfect an enhanced design for park recognizing the exist participants.
WSB personnel will be present at the presentation tonight along with PCLA personnel, city officials and others to answer questions on the design, further development and fundraising objectives.
