The makeup date for the Mighty Mississippi Cleanup Challenge in Red Wing is coming up Saturday, May 20 from 9 – 11 am.
Goodhue County Commissioner Linda Flanders says Goodhue County and the City of Red Wing have issued a joint challenge to every Minnesota county, city, and watershed district along the Mississippi River.
The two simultaneous events will take at Colvill Park and at Sturgeon Lake Road and County Road 18. Flanders says with the recent major flooding up and down the Mississippi River, there is very likely even more to clean up now.
Flanders says what we do here in Minnesota directly impacts the remaining 1,700 miles of the river and over the years, pollution has caused the Mississippi to get listed on the most polluted rivers list in the United States.
All are welcome at both locations on Saturday the 20th. Trash bags are provided, but please bring gloves and closed toed shoes.
