Red Wing Aces 9 Cannon Falls Bears 2
The Aces scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to grab the early lead and went on to beat the Bears for the Region 5C championship at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
Cannon Falls had numerous scoring the chances in the second, third and fourth innings but the Aces pitchers worked out of trouble and Red Wing led 5-2 after four innings of play.
Marcus Walm's bases loaded double capped a four run eighth inning for the Aces. Walm was 3-5, scored twice and knocked in four runs overall. Adam Thygsen added two RBI, Teddy Tauer and Brodie Smith had two hits apiece and Resse Tripp scored two runs for the Aces.
Ben Kuehni went the first three innings and allowed one run for the Aces with Spencer Schroeder pitching the middle three innings, allowing one run and picking up the win. Brady Schroeder pitched three perfect innings in relief, striking out five of the nine batters he faced, to earn the save.
Quniton Lindow took the loss for the Bears.
The Aces are the #1 seed in Region 5C and have a first weekend bye in next week's state tournament opening round with games in Faribault and Dundas.
Cannon Falls is the #2 seed and will play next weekend.
Today's games at The Ath have Hastings vs. Stewartville at 1pm and Wanamingo vs. Dodge County at 4pm. The winners meet at 7pm for the #3 seed out of Region 5C.
The Minnesota Baseball Association will have a Youtube State Amateur Baseball Tournament showing to reveal the brackets and pairings Sunday at 7pm.
