Lake City Fire Fatality


One person died in a fire in Lake City yesterday.


The Lake City Fire Department was dispatched Sunday at 6:54 am for a fully involved structure fire with multiple occupants trapped inside.


First arriving crews were met with smoke and fire showing on all four sides as well as all around the roof line with the front porch collapsed in, of a 2 story multi-family dwelling with ballon frame construction.


During a VEIS operation (vent, enter, isolate, search) a young female was rescued to safety from a second floor window and delivered to Lake City EMS where she was stabilized and transported to definitive care.


Search crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions with partial 2nd floor collapse.


A second occupant was located and found to be deceased.


After seven hours on scene the last crew cleared and returned to service.


Fire and EMS mutual aid was received from neighbors as well as support from law enforcement and the community. Wabasha and Zumbro Falls Fire Departments were on scene as well as Wabasha EMS and Lake City EMS. Also assisting, Lake City Public Works, Lake City Police Department, MN State Patrol and Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office and Glander Excavating.
