DNR Free Nitrate Screening Events

The Goodhue County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Goodhue County Health & Human Services invite private well owners to participate in free nitrate screening events this summer.

Summer 2026 water testing event details

• Winona County Fair in St. Charles

  • July 10 from noon to 3:30 p.m.

  • July 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Wabasha County Fair in Wabasha

  • July 17 from 2 to 6 p.m.

• Olmsted County Fair in Rochester

  • July 30 from noon to 3 p.m.

  • July 31 from 3 to 6 p.m.

• Goodhue County Fair in Zumbrota

  • August 13-14, from noon to 4 p.m.

To take part in a free nitrate screening, residents should collect a cup of water from their private well using a clean glass container.

They should bring it to the screening booth at a designated event. Samples will be analyzed on-site, and results will be provided within approximately 15 minutes.

Staff will be available to answer questions, help interpret results, and offer guidance if elevated nitrate levels are detected.
