Xcel Energy employees and partners in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota contributed over 35 hundred volunteer hours on September 11th during the company’s 15th annual Day of Service.
Volunteers came together in Red Wing to support two nonprofits.
At Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity, volunteers helped to construct twin homes, contributing to tasks such as framing, roofing, siding, interior finishing and landscaping.
The work will advance Habitat for Humanity’s mission to positively support communities and provide affordable housing.
Meanwhile, volunteers at the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center assisted with seasonal cleaning, organizing and tree planting to support the center’s programming.
The Environmental Learning Center aims to enhance the community’s understanding and appreciation of the outdoors through experiential and adventure-based programs.
More than 12 hundred volunteers supported local nonprofits through projects like meal packing, trail cleanup, and tree planting.
The effort generated an estimated $120,000 in economic impact across the region by working with over 90 nonprofits.
Day of Service was created as a tribute to the victims, survivors and first responders of 9/11, as well as all those who work to keep communities and the country safe.
