Motorists on Highway 58/Plum Street in Red Wing will experience a lane shift at 5th Street starting Wednesday while crews install an underground gas line, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The work is being done by Xcel Energy and is independent of the current Hwy 58 resurfacing project.
The east half of Hwy 58/Plum Street is scheduled to be closed from Wednesday to Saturday and then the closure will move to the west half from Monday, July 26 to Thursday, July 29. Two lanes of head to head traffic will remain open but the turn lane will be shifted into a driving lane. The sidewalk will be closed on the side where work is occurring.
Xcel Energy has already started their project and has closed 5th Street from Bush Street to Potter Street. Motorists should follow the detours of Potter Street to 6th Street or Bush Street to 6th Street.
