Winter Carnival Honoring Dakota Project

The ongoing Honoring Dakota Project is inviting the community to three days of celebrating Community Unity and Culture.

Red Wing Arts Executive Director, Emily Foos, says the overall theme is celebration of the Dakota culture and the history of trauma being brought out in the light.

There is a free community meal Saturday, January 14th from 5:30-7:30 pm at Treasure Island Resort & Casino where Red Wing and Prairie Island members come together to eat and an Honoring Dakota presentation.

Nicky Buck says on Sunday, January 15th the Winter Carnival at Treasure Island’s Paradise Cove runs from noon - 5 pm and will feature education, storytelling at the Bark Lodge, food, and she will be leading a unique hike.

Paul Dressen says Sunday’s ice fishing will include educating people on the Dakota culture.

The three days wrap up Monday, January 16th with Hike and Harvest Tablescape crafting at the Red Wing Arts Clay and Creative Center from 6- 8 pm. Use natural materials gathered on Sunday’s hike and harvest to create tablescapes for future community engagements.
