Wabasha Police Social Media Trend

1 min read

The Wabasha Police Department is aware of a social media trend circulating on TikTok involving “The Cat in the Hat.” Some students in our community have received or been forwarded content associated with this trend.

At this time, they are not aware of any specific or credible threat directed toward Wabasha-Kellogg Schools, its students, or staff.

"Cat in the Hat" TikTok trend is a viral phenomenon involving creepy, AI-generated images of the Dr. Seuss character. It has triggered school lockdowns, increased police presence, and multiple student arrests due to accompanying anonymous threats.

The Wabasha Police Department is working with Wabasha-Kellogg Schools to promote awareness of this trend and to ensure that any concerning information is appropriately reported and evaluated.

The Wabasha P.D. ask students and community members not to repost, forward, or otherwise share the content, as doing so can unnecessarily increase concern and make it more difficult to determine where information originated.

If a student receives concerning content, particularly anything that references our school, students, staff, or community specifically, please preserve the message or post and bring it to the attention of a school official or the Wabasha Police Department rather than sharing it with others.

As always, if you see or receive something that concerns you, please say something. Students and parents are welcome to contact a school official or the Wabasha Police Department with any questions or concerns.

Interesting read. Social media trends can spread so quickly these days, so it’s good to see the police reminding people not to share questionable content. With sites and platforms like MegaPersonals also being part of the online landscape, it’s a good reminder for everyone to think twice about what they click, share, or forward.
