Wabasha County Roundabout

Wabasha County Commissioners on Aug. 4 approved a detour agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in regard to the planned construction of a single-lane roundabout on Highway 63 at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 247 and Olmsted County Road 12 in 2027.

The Plainview News reports the agreement provides for an estimated payment to the County of $8,900.30, based on about 2.3 months of use of County State Aid Highway 25 between Olmsted County Highway 21 and State Highway 42 near Elgin.

The roundabout is being built to improve safety by addressing the existing and growing trend of right-angle crashes at the intersection, which has a high rate of right-angle crashes (72 percent of the crashes), according to information at dot.state.mn.us.
