Wabasha County’s Board of Commissioners on July 21 approved the purchase of a secure internal ballot collection box, to be used for the collection and secure storage of voted absentee and mail ballots returned by mail or in person during the absentee voting period.
The estimated purchase cost of $3,223.85 will be funded through State of Minnesota Voting Operations, Technology, and Election Resources (VOTER) account funds.
These funds are designated for election administration purposes, including absentee voting activities, making this an appropriate and eligible expenditure.
The ballot box will be located in the Auditor-Treasurer's Office, 625 Jefferson Ave, Wabasha, and will be used exclusively to collect voted absentee and mail ballots that are:
• Returned by mail.
• Dropped off by voters or designated agents.
• Or cast during in-person absentee voting.
