Sturgeon Lake Road Overpass

Construction of the Sturgeon Lake Road Overpass wrapped up just last summer, and it's clearly making an impact.

In a testament to the project's success, it has recently earned not one, but two awards.

The first is the 2025 Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association of Minnesota in the Greater Minnesota category, and the second is an Honor award from the Minnesota chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies.

The project eliminated one of Minnesota's most dangerous railroad crossings.

Now, a new overpass carries traffic over a railway, whose trains used to regularly block the only avenue in and out of the Prairie Island Indian Community.

This project also constructed a new underpass to improve access to tribal lands, including the Treasure Island Resort & Casino.

The Minnesota State Legislature funded construction.
