Red Wing Rotary marked its 25th annual Service Above Self luncheon last Tuesday by recognizing four public servants: Sgt. Kyley Lindholm with the city of Red Wing, Goodhue County Chief Deputy Jonathan Huneke, and Red Wing Public Schools teachers Doug and Jodi Barlow.
Each year in April, The Red Wing Rotary Club recognizes public servants who best exemplify the Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self" by demonstrating a commitment to helping others.
Huneke began his law enforcement career in 1999 at the Goodhue County Jail, rising to the rank of Chief Deputy. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, he is also deeply involved in his church, the Goodhue Lions Club, and 4‑H, consistently volunteering his time to support youth, community events, and local service efforts.
Red Wing native Kyley Lindholm first joined Red Wing Police Department as a reserve officer in June 2010. Two years later, she accepted a full-time post in Mankato, but in 2013 she jumped at the chance to return home, patrolling Red Wing streets for six years – occasionally on a bicycle – before accepting promotion to sergeant.
Longtime teachers Jodi & Doug Barlow will retire this year, between them having taught Red Wing students for nearly 70 years.
Jodi’s primary role is birth-to-3 early childhood special education teacher. Colvill Family Center Director Becky Norton said “I've gotten to witness the magic of her calm demeanor with families”
Doug teaches Industrial Technology. “What stands out most is the legacy he leaves behind — not just in the program he helped build, but in the people. Former students who went into trades, engineering, manufacturing, and countless other fields,” Red Wing High School Principal Joshua Fuchs said.
The winners will receive a $200 donation to the cause of their choice and a Service Above Self plaque with their name for a year.
