A Red Wing man has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his infant son.
Officials say 28-year-old Hunter McCutchen met the baby’s mother in November 2021, moving from Rochester to Red Wing in April 2023.
The following month, law enforcement was called to the couple’s residence on a report of an infant not breathing.
The baby was taken to a Red Wing hospital, then airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where it later died.
Evidence of Shaken Baby Syndrome was found among the infant’s injuries.
In evidence produced at trial, an audio recording of a cell phone conversation between McCutchen and the child’s mother depicts McCutchen admitting to shaking the baby after becoming overwhelmed.
His sentence hearing is scheduled for September.
