Red Wing HRA Housing Needs

Red Wing has long had a shortage of housing available to rent or buy but the city is excited about several projects that will help alleviate the problem.

Housing and Redevolpment Authority Director, Kurt Keena, says their mission is to provide quality, affordable, sustainable housing and community redevelopment programs, but the city needs housing options for all types of incomes and lifestyles.

Keena says the Three Rivers housing project, which did not get enough support from the Red Wing City Council to go forward for now, was an example of the lack of land available and the city’s zoning.

Some of the housing projects in the works include a redevelopment project on the corner of Bush and W. 3rd streets  and the former St. John's Hospital property located at 1407 W. 4th Street in Red Wing that was purchased by Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity, who plan to build 23 single and twin homes over the next 8 to 10 years.
