As heaters get cranked up to combat the chill, so does the risk of carbon monoxide (CO): an odorless, tasteless, invisible gas that can poison you before you ever know it's there.
That's where CO alarms come in.
Red Wing is one of eight communities to receive CO alarms from the State Fire Marshal division.
The Red Wing Fire Department will install 250 alarms free of charge in homes at higher risk of CO poisoning, while also educating on CO prevention.
Residents can also request CO alarms by contacting Fire Station 1 at  651-388-7141 while supplies last.
