Red Wing E-Waste Event Success

The City of Red Wing Waste Campus’s recent e-waste collection event was a huge success.

In total, 666 vehicles passed the gates, dropping off two semis' worth of electronics and over 11 tons of appliances.

Some people disposed of laptops or appliances left over from a kitchen renovation, but others added distinctly vintage gadgets to the mix.

For example, a 1930s radio or a 1960s acoustic measuring device. Items ran the size spectrum, too, from computer mice and keyboards to bulky fridges and washing machines.

Most of those items were accepted for free, and the few that weren’t were accepted at reduced prices.

What makes this financially possible? It’s not your tax dollars.

The Waste Campus operates as a business.

The fees collected for its services are the funds that keep things running day-to-day and make the e-waste collection event possible.

If you missed out on the event, you can still drop off e-waste at the Waste Campus (fees apply) during business hours, or you can start building a stack for next year’s event.
