Red Wing Bluewater Farms Hatchery Proposal

The Red Wing Port Authority met for their annual workshop Wednesday and one of the topics of discussion on a proposed walleye farm that would be built on city owned property at the junction of Highways 61 and 19.

Representatives of Bluewater Farms Hatchery gave a brief recap to the City Council last Monday about the project.

Mayor Mike Wilson feels like it could be a good fit for both the company and the community.

Some of the things brought up during the Port Authority workshop, needing to work with MnDOT, who is in charge of a portion of Highway 19 in front of the property, on a land swap, an archeological survey, site preperation, and wastewater permitting.

Mayor Wilson believes the process could be streamlined to speed things up.

The Port Authority has two other options on the table, a proposed Driftless Museum and possible private use manufacturing through the City’s HRA.

Representatives for Bluewater Farms Hatchery hope to give the Port Authority and/or the City Council a full presentation soon.
