Last Tuesday, a majority of Red Wing City Council members voted to wait until Monday, June 8 to decide on a multi-family zoning proposal that has drawn significant written and verbal public comments.
The Advisory Planning Commission recommended that Council rezone three areas of town to higher-density housing: the Jefferson School block, the former Bay View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on West Fourth Street, and a portion of the Briarwood development closest to Tyler Road South.
That recommendation was spurred by the City's 2040 Plan, local housing data, a recent Housing Summit, and a Council priority in its Strategic Plan to increase housing.
Council heard one hour of public comments on Tuesday and later discussed site specifics, such as potential green space at Jefferson.
A majority of the Council requested that staff bring forward the three sites separately on Monday, June 8 so the Council can vote on each area individually.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
