MnDOT New Roundabout Meeting

Greg Taylor

The public is invited to attend a public information meeting on Thursday, Jan. 23 to learn more about a new roundabout planned at Highways 63, 247 and Olmsted County Road 12, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The meeting will be held in person from 4 to 6 p.m. on at the Farmington Township Hall, which is east of the intersection and west of Potsdam, 11534 County 128 Rd NE, Elgin.

Visitors can provide feedback, learn more about the project and review traffic routing planned for construction in 2027.

People unable to attend the meeting will be able to review the information on the MnDOT project website, where you can also sign up for project email updates.

In 2027, MnDOT along with Olmsted County will be constructing a roundabout at Highways 63, 247 and County Road 12, which is 7 miles north of Rochester and 12 miles west of Plainview.

A single-lane roundabout is proposed at this location to improve safety by addressing the existing and growing trend of right-angle crashes at the intersection, which has a high rate of right-angle crashes (72% of the crashes).

A variety of low-cost safety enhancements have been implemented at the intersection to improve safety, such as LED-enhanced stop signs, pavement markings and other advance warnings, but right-angle crashes continue.
