Mississippi River Major Flooding Forecast


Water levels continue to climb on the Mississippi River with many locations already seeing minor to moderate flooding as of Wednesday .


This moderate flooding is expected to continue through the weekend and there may be even a few locations that may approach or see major flooding over the weekend.


The Flood Warning continues for the Mississippi River at Lake City affecting Pepin, Wabasha and Goodhue Counties and the Mississippi River at Wabasha affecting Wabasha and Buffalo Counties.


According to the National Weather Service, the river at Hastings is at 17.68 ft and is expected to reach major flood level, 18 ft. by late today (Thursday). It’s forecast to be at 19.2 feet by Sunday morning.


Red Wing’s measurement stood at 15.44 ft and is forecast to go over the major flood stage of 16 ft by Friday and 17 feet by Monday.


The river at Lake City is 17.7 ft, and by Monday it’s estimated to be at 19.0 ft. Moderate Flood level is 18 ft. and major flooding occurs at 20 ft. The record flood level is 22.2.


Wabasha is experiencing moderate flooding at 15.3 ft, and is forecast to be at 16.2 ft. by Monday. The flood stage for major flooding is 16 ft. The record flooding reached 20 feet.
