Mississippi River Flood Outlook

The National Weather Service in La Crosse reports the Mississippi River water level will be rising to near or above flood stage in the next couple of weeks as the snow melts for good.

Weather Service Hydrologist, Jordan Wendt, says this weeks big warm-up means we are getting closer to having to worry about some flooding.

Wendt says any additional rain we get between now and the end of this month will be a key factor in flood prediction.

According to the Weather Service, as of Friday morning the river at Lake City was at 10.9 ft, and by April 14th it’s estimated to be at 13.6 ft. Flood stage is 16 ft.

Wabasha readings as of Friday, 9.73 ft and is predicted to rise to 11.9 feet by April 14th. Flood stage is 12 ft.
