Missing Man Body Found

Saturday at 3:15pm, the Goodhue County Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a water emergency near the sandy point of Long Point on the Mississippi River, just north of Lake City.
According to witnesses, a 12-year-old juvenile female entered the water to wade alongside a 56-year-old male, a close family friend.
While walking along the sandbar, the girl was seen flailing her arms in distress. A nearby boat responded, locating the girl in water over her head. She was safely pulled from the river and did not sustain any injuries.
Neither the juvenile nor the adult male were wearing life jackets.
According to witnesses, the 56-year-old male went under the water and did not resurface.
Deputies from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Lake City Fire Department, Lake City Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, responded and initiated a search for the missing man.
Drone assets were also deployed to assist with aerial surveillance and search efforts.
The body of an adult male was located and recovered by the Sheriff’s Office late Sunday afternoon.
Based on investigative efforts and the location of recovery, the individual is believed to be the missing 56-year-old male involved in this incident.
Positive identification is pending from the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
