Red Wing Mayor Gary Iocco recently returned home from attending the U.N. Climate Change Week, held in New York City.
Mayor Iocco is the chair of the Corporate Advisory Board of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI). It was in his role as chair that Mayor Iocco served as a panelist, speaking on behalf of a key MRCTI goal: to promote the Mississippi River Resilience Program.
This program, in partnership with Ducks Unlimited, aims, in part, to create flood-management projects that would help secure clean water, wildlife, and the economies of river cities.
Mayor Iocco says “All along the Mississippi, including here at home, we have flooding issues, this series of projects would create areas across 100,000 acres along the river that would hold floodwaters during floods, then release the water during low-water periods.
