Lock and Dam 3 Red Wing

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, has released its 2021 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River.


During the 2021 season, Corps staff supported 1,274 commercial navigation lockages at Lock and Dam 3, near Red Wing, which was below the 10-year average of 1,571 lockages.


The 2021 lockages supported 6,977,580 tons, or approximately 4,500 barges of commodities shipped by the navigation industry. During the 2020 season, Corps staff supported 1,580 commercial lockages and the movement of over 9.1 tons of commodities.


In addition to the commercial lockages, Corps staff locked 8,474 recreation vessels during 3,058 lockages.


During the 2021 season, Corps staff supported 1,359 commercial navigation lockages at Lock and Dam 2, near Hastings, which was below the 10-year average of 1,421 lockages.


Corps staff supported 1,636 commercial navigation lockages at Lock and Dam 4, near Alma, Wisconsin, which was above the 10-year average of 1,547 lockages.
