La Crosse NWS SKYWARN

The National Weather Service in La Crosse is looking for storm spotters for the spring and summer severe weather season.
SKYWARN is a FREE volunteer program that help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the NWS.
2026 spotter training will only be offered virtually and you must pre-register.
All classes are FREE and open to everyone and led by NWS La Crosse meteorologists.
Virtual training will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, covering storm spotting basics plus a deeper dive into thunderstorm meteorology, storm structure, etc. Wednesday, April 15 from 1 – 3 pm and Tuesday, April 28 from 6 - 8 pm.
Once you complete training, you are an officially trained spotter and able to report to your local NWS office.
