Glasgow Township DNR Land

ree

Wabasha County Commissioners on Aug. 5 approved a request by the Minnesota DNR to accept a donation of about 155 acres of land along the Zumbro River from the Trust for Public Land (TPL) and return it to forest land.

The site in Glasgow Township, northwest of Kellogg, adjoins the southern border of the Kruger Recreation Area and would connect it to the river.

The property is in the floodplain and has been flooded annually for a number of years, according to the Plainview News.

The frequent flooding greatly reduces yields and washes agricultural chemicals and sediment into the Zumbro and Mississippi rivers.

The DNR will use the land for natural resource and public access purposes.

The acquisition also will create wildlife habitat, mitigate climate change, and expand public recreational opportunities.
