The Minnesota DNR is hosting the rescheduled candlelight event at Frontenac State Park on Saturday, February 28th.
Drop by from 6 to 8 p.m. to hike, ski or snowshoe under the near-full moon and as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.
The 1.5-mile trail starts at the main overlook and is suitable for skiers, snowshoers or hikers of all ages. Visitors can also warm up with a cup of hot cocoa near a bonfire at the picnic shelter.
Visitors can rent snowshoes at the state park. Call 651-299-3000 in advance to confirm the availability of equipment.
Save time by getting vehicle permits and ski passes online before you go. Visitors need a vehicle permit to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas.
The DNR recommends buying permits in advance ($7 per day or $35 for a year-round permit) on the DNR permit webpage (mndnr.gov/permit). Permits are also available in person at the state park or recreation area.
Skiers ages 16 and older will need a Great Minnesota Ski Pass to cross-country ski at the candlelight event. Ski passes can be purchased online at mndnr.gov/skipass or in person at the state park.
In the event of severe weather, call 651-299-3000 for updates or check visitor alerts on the park webpage (mndnr.gov/frontenac).
