Elgin Garage Sales Ordinance Draft

Elgin’s City Council on June 18 held a first reading regarding an ordinance relating to garage sales.

Elgin’s City Attorney prepared a draft ordinance regulating garage sales, based on the City Council’s review of similar ordinances from other communities.

According to the Planinview News some of the key updates to the draft ordinance include:

Limiting garage sales to residential zones only.

Allowing a maximum of four garage sales per year per property.

Restricting sales to no more than three consecutive days.

Setting permitted sale hours to end at 8 pm and adding no more than two consecutive sales, with 30 days separation between all others.

A second reading will be held during the City Council’s meeting in July.
