Elgin’s 59th-annual Cheese Days celebration is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with all sorts of activities, food and live music on tap.
Friday events will include city-wide garage sales, food trucks, rides and a carnival, music by Logan Hofschulte and the Midway Band - and Elgin Fire Department water fights. Two-person teams will compete in the water fights, wearing full turnout gear.
Saturday will feature more city-wide garage sales, a medallion hunt, men’s and women’s softball tournaments, the Elgin EMS ‘Cheese Chase’ 1K and 5K runs, a vendor craft show, a tractor pull, rides and a carnival, food vendors, a free kids’ event on Main Street, car ‘burnouts,’ and music by Thomas and the Shakes and Some Shitty Cover Band.
The Plainview News reports the Cheese Chase serves as a fundraiser for the Elgin Ambulance Service. The race is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. New prize categories added this year include the Cheesiest Outfit Award, the Best Team Theme Prize, and the Fastest 5K Racer Award.
Sunday’s activities will include a men’s softball tournament, the Grand Parade (at 1:30 p.m.), a petting zoo, free cheese and crackers, a kids’ pedal pull, a bean bag tournament, and music by Warrior Revival and The Dweebs.
This year’s parade Grand Marshals are longtime Elgin residents Ron and Roberta Kurth.
This year, Pure Country WPVW is the main sponsor.
