CPKC Rail Corridor Night Work

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) will perform nighttime work on the rail corridor parallel to U.S. 61 in Goodhue County in the coming weeks.

Residents should expect track maintenance machines to generate noise and light during the overnight hours while this work is underway, which is expected to last until around Sept. 1.

The program involves workers replacing ties nearing the ends of their useful service lives and resurfacing the track.

Workers will also remove and reinstall grade crossings on roads that intersect the line, creating smoother transitions between crossings and adjacent road surfaces.

CPKC and its contractors will contact road authorities in advance of crossing removals to coordinate temporary road closures.

Track crews will start and end their work periods near the water treatment plant in Red Wing and in Frontenac.

No work is planned west of the Cannon River bridge west of Red Wing.

CPKC has scheduled the work for nighttime hours to minimize impacts to freight and passenger rail traffic, including Amtrak’s Empire Builder and Borealis passenger trains.
