The Red Wing City Council Monday unanimously approved going forward with a project that would install a permanent binocular viewing station at Colvill Park.
Park Naturalist and Program Coordinator for Community Education, Erin Augustin, made the presentation and explained what the viewing station will look like. It will be non-coin operated, ADA accessible, viewing heads that swivel 360 degrees, 20X magnification, and viewing heads are removable in case of flooding.
Augustin told the council it help people connect with the natural landscape, the river, and the wildlife.
A grant will be submitted by April 20th and the viewer, which will cost just over 54-hundred dollars, will be purchased by May 31st.
The project is funded by Wings Foundation and Public Works will handle the installation at no cost to the City.
