City of Elgin Water High Nitrate

The city of Elgin is warning residents to avoid using city drinking water, especially for infants 6 months old or younger, due to unusually high nitrate readings.  

The warning does not include Rolling Hills.

According to an announcement on the city's Facebook page, boiling, freezing or filtering water will not reduce the nitrate level.

The water should not be of concern for adults or children older than 6 months of age and the post adds the city of Elgin is exploring methods to reduce nitrate levels in the city's water system.

The Facebook post says the City will provide an update later this week when they have results from the updated water sample.
