AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act House Bill

A House bill that would require carmakers to keep AM radio in the dashboard has taken a step forward in Congress.

A House subcommittee Friday approved the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act which, if passed, would require the Secretary of Transportation to issue a rule requiring access to AM broadcast stations in motor vehicles. The bill has already passed in the Senate.

Some lawmakers say auto executives have told them they would be open to voluntary rules regarding AM radio.

Several automakers, including Ford, VW, Volvo, Tesla, and BMW, want to take AM radio out of their new vehicles, claiming the AM Band interferes with electric vehicles performance.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, says she is a cosponsor of the legislation.
