Two Rochester men were killed Tuesday afternoon after the airplane they were in crashed about one half mile west of the Red Wing Regional Airport on Highway 35 in a field on airport property.
According to the the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, they were notified of an airplane crash around 1:39 pm.
The two victims killed in the crash were 28-year old John Zeman and 20-year old Ethan Smith.
The plane left an airport in Rochester at 12:20 pm for a training flight to the Red Wing Regional Airport in Bay City.
The National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash and it will take several months for the investigation to be completed.
