Red Wing Trains Quiet Zone

According to the City of Red Wing, train horns blaring in Red Wing will soon largely be a thing of the past because a railroad quiet zone goes into effect on Wednesday, September 2.

That means trains will no longer regularly sound their horns at railroad crossings in town.

Talks about a quiet zone started decades ago, and now, enhanced safety features at the Jackson Street crossing finally made it possible.

Some residents may miss the train whistles from afar, but those nearer the tracks will enjoy lower noise pollution, and adjacent areas may see a boost to retail and commercial activity.
