Plainview Possible Property Purchase

Plainview’s City Council has discussed the possibility of purchasing 38.06 acres of property just south of town.

Purchasing the property along County Road 4 near Piper Hills Golf Course and Plainview’s wastewater treatment facility would allow the City to apply for a federal Economic Development Administration grant for 80 percent of the cost to develop the property, up to $5 million.

BA Holdings in Plainview purchased the land in 2024 to develop a commercial and industrial subdivision and address a shortage of building sites for new businesses in town.

The Plainview News reports the land was annexed into the city.

Mayor Keith Holm said the development will remain an industrial park, and the City will sell the lots to potential businesses.

Holm said the City wants to ensure that the Business Development Public Infrastructure grant it previously applied for and received is compatible with the federal EDA grant. If not, it would need to discuss which grant made more sense for the City to pursue.

If the City applies for the federal EDA grant, the process takes up to 90 days to complete, which would allow for the City to begin selling lots and development to begin
