Wastewater Treatment Facility

At a projected cost of $142 million, the replacement of the Wastewater Treatment Facility will likely be the largest City infrastructure project in Red Wing's history.
That's why it's important that the City carefully evaluate all their options to ensure the facility meets our needs while remaining affordable.
Preliminary plans used a wastewater treatment technology called a biological aerated filter (BAF), but further review has identified another option: aerobic granular sludge (AGS).
AGS has the potential to require less physical space and lower costs overall.
Staff is further researching the AGS technology, in conjunction with planning consultant Bolton & Menk, to ultimately determine its feasibility.
The project will continue to ramp up in 2027 and beyond, with continued design planning and phased construction.
