The John and Kris Miller family of Plainview has been named Wabasha County’s 2024 Farm Family of the Year by the University of Minnesota.
Â
According to the Plainview News, John and Kris started out by renting a farm north of Plainview in 1991, milking 30 cows.
Â
The Millers moved to their current location east of Plainview in 1995, renting their 240-acre dairy farm from Don and Jean Schultz of St. Charles and milking about 70 cows. Don and Jean later sold the farm to the Millers on a contract for deed in 2000.
Â
John and Kris are currently milking 300-plus cows and cropping about 700 acres. Kris works from home for Mayo Clinic. They grow corn, alfalfa, and a few acres of canning crops. Their oldest son, Tom, and his wife, Bailey, are farming with John and Kris.
Â
The family will be acknowledged on Saturday, July 20 at the start of the Wabasha County Fair’s 4-H Livestock Blue Ribbon auction, and in a ceremony Thursday, Aug. 8 during the annual Farmfest event near Redwood Falls.Â
